How You Can Help

In every abortion there is a death experience. The nature of abortion; confidential, private, secret, does not allow us to grieve our losses. Often we feel abortion is not “right” yet we do it anyway. We are concerned about what others might think if they knew. Because of this we have complicated the grief process, feel guilt and are afraid of feeling shame. One or a combination of these may cause us to experience one, some, or all of the following:

        Feelings of loss

        Drug & alcohol abuse

        Repeat abortions

        Sexual dysfunction

        Self-destructive behavior

        Suicidal impulses

        Severe emotional pain

        Blunting of emotional effect

        Desire for secrecy about abortion

Inability to sustain an intimate relationship

Hatred toward anyone connected with the abortion

If you identify with any of these, you may want to seek counseling for a negative abortion response.

How can a woman find closure and healing?

Post-abortion counseling is a caring and supportive aid to women in accepting reality, processing grief, and receiving forgiveness for sin. All psychological trauma has a residual effect, but the effect can be minimized if the trauma is recognized as reality, processed and resolved. James Dobson, a noted Christian psychologist states: “The first step to mental health is the acceptance of reality.”
